Pulse Pro Hub: Troubleshooting WPA3 Security and Router Settings

If you're having trouble connecting your Pulse Pro Hub to your Wi-Fi network, it could be due to your router using WPA3 security settings. This issue is commonly seen with certain routers, like the NETGEAR Nighthawk MK93S mesh router system, but it can happen with other routers using WPA3 as well.

You can easily resolve this by temporarily switching your router’s security setting to WPA2. Once the Pulse Pro Hub is connected, you can typically switch back to WPA3 if needed. Below are the steps to help you through the process.

What is WPA3?

WPA3 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 3) is the latest Wi-Fi security standard, offering improved protection and encryption for your network when compared to WPA2. WPA3 also includes features like stronger protection for public networks, ensuring a more secure experience overall. While WPA3 improves security, some devices may require a temporary switch to WPA2 to establish a connection. WPA2 is still utilized by many networks today and offers sufficient security for most users. However once the Hub is connected, you can switch back to WPA3 if needed.

Can I connect the Hub using Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi?

Yes! If you would rather not use Wi-Fi or change your Wi-Fi security settings, you can instead setup the Hub using an Ethernet connection.

How do I change my router’s settings to WPA2?

Here are the steps to change the security settings to WPA2 on a NETGEAR Nighthawk MK93S mesh router. If you're using a different router, the steps will be similar. (Check with your router's manufacture for more details or if unsure at a particular step.)

1. Log in to your router’s admin portal.
Open a web browser and enter your router’s IP address in the address bar.
Info
Note: Most commonly 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1

2. Enter your router's username and password and sign in.
Info
Note: This will be different than your Wi-Fi credentials. The default username and password are typically admin and password respectfully.

3. Select and apply WPA2 security.
From the Wireless section, scroll down and select WPA2. Then press Apply at the bottom.
Notes
Note: Your router will then restart. After several minutes, ensure that your Wi-Fi is back up and running and that your have an Internet connection again.

4. Setup and pair your Pulse Pro Hub.
With WPA2 now enabled, follow the standard pairing process for your Automate Pulse Pro Hub.

For more detailed instructions on how to pair the Hub, see Pulse Pro Hub: Wi-Fi Setup

5. Optional: Switch your router back to WPA3 security.
Once your Automate Pulse Pro Hub has successfully paired, you can switch the router’s security back to WPA3 by following the same steps and selecting WPA3. The Hub should stay connected, even after the security mode is changed back to WPA3.
